This poster explains why we chose to make this project, our learning process, our engineering process, and what we achieved.
Why our heads up display? We made our live transcription glasses so that hearing impaired people could better communicate with the rest of the world. The glasses display the words being said in conversation so that the hearing impaired person can read and follow along. It's just real time close captioning. We used a web api to perform the transcription, and a transparent OLED display to print out the transcriptions on the glass for the viewer to see out in front of them.
To start the real time transcription, put the glasses on, connect to a power socket, run the code, and click the button. The program waits for a silence of around 2 seconds in audio to transcribe your speech, so when speaking, either speak slowly, or pause every 20 words or so that the glasses can accurately display the audio transcription. Click the button to start and stop transcribing.
