I was inspired to create this project when working on the school musical. I needed a way to turn the pages of my music book without taking my hands off my instrument. I ended up using an Ipad with a digital pedal control, which meant I had to scan all of the pages to get the book onto the Ipad. This made me wonder if I could create a physical page-turning system without relying on the technology I used. That is how I created the design shown on the right, which turns the page hands-free with the press of a pedal!
This system consists of the pedal and two motors responsible for the actual page-turning action. One motor curls the page upward, creating a pocket of space for the other motor to flip the page across. This creates a seamless page turn that is repeatable and doesn’t block any line of sight. The book is held to the board by clips, ensuring that the sheet music stays stable for the musician to read. Finally, the unique arm design that holds the page curling motor allows the system to be positioned upright on a music stand while still being able to effectively turn the pages. This system ensures that a musician can play their instrument without worrying about using their hands to turn the page of their sheet music!
